Quick Update: 5 days of ‘No Poo’

It is now day 5 post wash using the no poo method and I must say I am happy with results!

My hair isn’t greasy at ALL! I am wondering though if my lack of transition period is either a fluke – so that when I do wash imminently I will be inundated by a MASSIVE transition period and be in grease-city OR if in fact, my lack of transition period is because I had already stopped using sulphate shampoo and conditioner before stopping shampoo altogether? Either way I CANNOT believe that my hair is not, only NOT greasy BUT it is still soft and manageable as though I had only washed it yesterday!

I have also noticed that I am not needing to use as much air product AND that my hair is VERY soft after I’ve popped in the hair product and doesn’t have any ‘crunchy’ feel. I’m also finding that it is still holding my curl really well + giving me even more body/volume than I usually would have (without a volumising spray at the roots) which i am liking a lot. There was quite a bit of ‘breeze’ over the weekend and I loved the movement/having the wind in my hair and then seeing that my curls still looked really nice (usually they’d be looking all over the place)! I am also noticing that (as I’m using a lesser amount of product in my hair) my hair itself seems lighter in colour.

Day 5 and still happy with the results…

Oh how things (unknowingly) change…

This afternoon Mr A took a candid photo of me getting ready in the bathroom – it was purely him being a tool and not something i want the blogsphere to see. BUT in saying that, i scarily noticed the “slight” shift in what was on my bathroom table.

I – like most girls like to look my best. I (as a rule) do like some luxuries – some, not many – just a few to make me fell a lil special and let Mr A feel like his with a lil princess… without being high maintenance. I love MOR’s body butter – i am completely and utterly devoted to their Pomegranate line and insist that NO OTHER BRAND DOES IT BETTER! Every other day i apply the MOR butter on my entire body – i alternate between that and Nivea Q10 Body lotion (simply because i like it – yes, i may have been suckered into the marketing about Q10 but it is grossly cheaper than the MOR body butter). I cleanse (with Garnier Pure – i have oily skin), tone (with Lush tea-tree mist) and moisturise (Olay Special Effects – i mean they DO say that it fights the 7 seven sign of aging – who am i to argue with these statistics??) twice a day. I include a primer (because it is a crime NOT to prime) into my morning repotire (Model Co/Rimmel – I alternate) and bless the person that came up with powder mineral foundation! On nights out i ‘luxe’ it up a bit and use Bourjois’ Mousse Matte mineral liquid foundation….

And then things slowly started to change… In the search of trying to find make-up that would keep my shiny face NOT being shiny without having to touch up every other hour I scoured the web and makeup artists I knew to see what they recommended. I trawled websites for hours and reviews from http://www.beautyheaven.com.au/ to http://www.makeupalley.com/, Bubblegarm and ever so simply Googling “great photography make-up”. My quest led me to try and locate online stores that sold these products so that I could do it all at the touch of my fingertips – I went into Myers and David Jones on the hunt for new products – I was so ardent in my search that I am still unabated until I am certain that I have found the perfect combination that WILL render me speechless… as well as flawlessly oily-less.

And this is what I noticed… I am now no longer a mid-range gal.

Priceline was my one stop shop – it was my fortnightly essential location… now, whilst there is still a strong desire to go there regularly I notice I am racking up less points… First it was the discovery of MAC’s Prep & Prime… SOOOO much better than the Model Co and the Rimmel – alas those 2 sit now in the back of the drawer. Then came the end of the little pot of MAC Matte Gel which they gave me to sample… I begrudgingly had to admit defeat and proclaim that I DID like it… and had to buy said tube. Next was my change from Olay Special Effects moisturizer to Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel – my heart both soared and plummeted as it mattifed my face to pure perfection and required only ONE touch up at the end of my work day!!!! And then today came MAC’s Studio Fix… with the quiet intention of me returning to the MAC counter next week to get the matching liquid foundation! I forgot to mention that I am secretly hoping to try MAC’s “Mineralize” Oh the shame of it all… that THIS is what I have become now… That whilst I lament at the additional costs that i KNOW that this will create i am inspired by the sheer awesomeness of said products! That even as i type this i am wondering when i will next be able to steal a moment and try Smashbox’s Photo Finish Light as i hear it is fantastic for photos!

The oh so WORRYING thing is that when I mentioned to Mr A how much MORE this up keep would cost I thought he would tell me that I was dreaming; that this would be a ‘one-off’ and that post wedding party my skin and bauty regime would return to my once coveted L’Oreal but no – the guy LOVES it… I cannot believe how strange he is!

For the ladies out there – what is your makeup splurge?

PS I “forgot” to mention that i am slowly (but surely) overhauling my makeup brushes – meaning i have purchased a newer better Kabuki brush and am now aquiring more brushes than you can throw a brush at! Hehe

Zumba-licious!

I got home Wednesday night sweaty… sweaty and tired but satisfied!

I woke up on the Thursday morning to get “up & at ’em” for work and ‘lo
and behold I was sore… not in the ‘I need to crawl my way to the bathroom because standing hurts too much’ kinda way but more in the “oh – I don’t remember that hurting yesterday!”

I’ve actually been (trying) to make positive strides in the proactive
positive thoughts regarding exercise and I think that overall things are coming along well; Mr A me, Susi and her boyfriend have been regularly working out with Susi’s sister and where in the beginning I will admit to going VERY begrudgingly I only woke up sore after the first training – then (thankfully) all has been well! In some sick and (very?) twisted way I sort of enjoy it now!

BUT now – about my Zumba class:
I enjoyed it IMMENSLY! Susi and I are intending to go twice a week. I will say that there were moments where I felt that there was a slight “cult-like” feeling to it (as we moved our arms around to this one track
where the word Zumba sounded slightly like a trance-like chant). But all in all I really liked it!

Our instructor was lovely – a very nice blond American woman. It costs $10 per session with the session lasting an hour. And seriously – when she starts the music it does NOT stop! That night there would have been about 25 ‘participants’ of which most lingered towards the back… which meant Susi and I were in the front (eek!). Its been SO long since I have done any dancing (as Mr A cannot dance – at all… seriously – the guy has very, very rhythmic ability – very sad indeed!) as since Mr A abstains I too have had dancing absent in my life.

Alas standing in the front (right in front) of the instructor and (in front of) wall-to-wall mirrors as well as being next to someone who currently regularly goes to Latin dance classes (ahem – Susi!) did nothing for my lost rhythm – I have NO idea where it went… but I do hope I get it back soon.

That being said, soreness aside I was mighty chuffed with my ability to persevere! I went home exhausted and allowed myself a salad and nice cold sliced mango for dessert. There was no way I was going to ruin my workout with a heavy meal + carbs + ice-cream; they would be no point then!

So I hope and pray that within a few weeks (based on a continuance of my current ‘regime’) that I will see fantastic results in both a return of my rhythm and new and improved lithe body!

Fingers crossed!

Marketing, make-up, literature & me…

Before I leave for this trip I have quite a few things that I need to purchase – stuff like primer, moisturiser, etc. Anyway as I’ve said before I am truly a marketer’s dream. Forget subliminal or covert advertising… I am all for L’Oreal’s “because I’m worth it” campaign. A new product is out there with new promises and notion of skin renewal, illumination, hydration and sebum control and consider me sold! Skin is renewed and appears visibly more elastic and toned in 2 weeks – where’s my pen because next trip to the shops you’ll know where to find me!

BUT… I realised the other day that there is a line (oh, lets say a wrinkle?) that stops me dead in my tracks and leads me to think that YOU my marketing friend are totally bullshitting me! I may be naïve enough to think that Garnier’s Body Tonic does actually tone my skin so much so that I don’t need to be on the treadmill as much (seriously, I used this every day for 2 weeks without fail day and night on my legs & thigh area – *ahem* and a little higher and I swear that I saw and felt a huuuugggge difference) and that Model Co’s skin primer really does make a massive difference comparative to not using a face primer however even I have my limits!

The latest and greatest advertisement that I saw the other day on television was for an anti-ageing cream that I think was from Nivea. It promises to visibly reduce wrinkles AND plump skin within…. FOUR HOURS! Four hours people??? Is anyone… anyone believing this? Surely no one would think that you could put on this magical cream and within four hours (that’s like watching a DVD + the trailers + some of the special features) you’ll actually look younger? That’s madness? Who is coming up with this stuff?

2 hours later:

Okay, I just back from the beauty therapist and then David Jones (department store) to get some primer… I saw new packaging… naturally I peruse and have a look see! The lady comes up to me and tells me that this is some brand spanking new product that has been released and sold buketloads in the US (ok, she didn’t use ‘bucketload’ but you catch my drift). Apparently this primer and ultra mattifying cream was used on the set of a blockbuster movie, the set of some American sitcom that I can’t remember right now and American Idol and therefore all the go…. It was also about $15 more expensive than my regular primer BUT meant to be designed for the use of high definition television and lighting conditions…. So what do you think happened?

Yeah I bought it… *very sheepish look on face now*

Along with the book that my uncle requested as his little pressie:

Waleed Aly: People Like Us

Waleed Aly's book
Waleed Aly

Do you think it would be bad or rude of me to bring this on the plane and have a bit of a read of it myself (before giving it to him)?

By the way; the guy who wrote this book is on my blogroll see; Waleed’s Blog & Salam Café!
